Studio setup

Encoding for SlideCast can be done in the browser for small webcam broadcasts or use professional encoders such as OBS, Wirecast, or any encoder capable of supplying a RTMP(S) stream.

The choice of encoder is made on the Event Page's Basic settings, or directly in the Live Producer tool.

Apart from using the webcam, which should be reserved for the very small scale, SlideSync can produce setup files for the widely used encoders OBS and Wirecast, as well as FMLE for backward compatibility. You may very well use any other RTMP-compatible encoder and point the stream to the servers supplied by SlideSync on that same page.

If you decide to use an external encoder. Here are our recommended settings:


  • Video
  • Codec: H.264
  • Resolution and bitrate:
    • 720p: 1280 x 720px (720p), 1.5 - 4.0 Mbit/s
    • 1080p: 1920 x 1080px, 4.0 - 10.0 Mbit/s
  • Frame rate: 25 fps
  • Keyframe interval: Every 2 seconds or every 50 frames
  • Encoding: CBR


  • Codec: AAC
  • Bitrate: 96 - 128 kbit/s
  • Sample rate: 44.1 KHz or 48.0 KHz

Advanced settings

  • Pixel aspect ratio: Square
  • Frame types: Progressive Scan
  • Entropy coding: CABAC


Audio Only

When: small meetings, status updates, 2-3 speakers in an isolated room

  • Connect a microphone to your computer
  • Produce directly from your web browser via SlideSync's Live Producer
  • We recommend using external microphones (connected via microphone jack or USB) instead of built-in laptop microphones in order to reduce fan and keyboard noise.
Hardware recommendations: Laptop with external conferencing microphone (e.g. Jabra Speak 510)

Video: small

When: one speaker addressing a smaller group, may use a headset in a shared office space

  • Use a built-in webcam or connect a USB webcam
  • Use a headset or an external microphone (using internal laptop microphones is not recommended)
  • Produce directly from your web browser via SlideSync's Live Producer

Hardware recommendations:

1. Logitech ConferenceCam Connect 



Connect the Logitech ConferenceCam Connect to your computer via an USB cable and select "Webcam" in the SlideSync encoding settings.

No additional software or hardware is required. The device serves as a camera as well as a microphone. 

A simple plug-n-play solution for smaller webcasts with 1-2 people in front of the camera in small rooms. 

Medium setup

When: official address to a large group, 2 - 3 speakers in an isolated room (or preferably a studio)

How: external camera and microphones

Hardware recommendations:

1. Blackmagic Web Presenter 



A general solution for all types of cameras (if there is an output on HDMI or SDI) is the Blackmagic Web Presenter. The sound signal, which is ideally supplied via an XLR cable, can also be embedded directly in the Web Presenter.  
Connected to a PC or Laptop, the Web Presenter is recognized as a webcam, which can be selected in the SlideSync encoding settings. It may be necessary to deactivate the internal camera in the Device Manager.

How to disable your webcam and microphone through Device Manager:

  • Right-click the Start button
  • Click Device Manager
  • Click the dropdown arrow next to the Imaging devices
  • Right-click Integrated Camera - note that this could changedepending on the hardware in your laptopn.
  • Click Disable
  • Click Yes
A simple, cost-effective solution for a variety of applications, especially when the camera and mixer are already in place. 


2. Switcher-App with a radio microphone 





In addition to wired methods, there are also wireless solutions.  

With the Switcher Studio app, you can send the video signal of your smartphone (in our case iPhone) with embedded sound from the Lavalier microphone via RTMP stream to SlideSync: 
  • In SlideSync / Basics / Encoding method: select "Other Encoder" 
  • Start your Switcher Studio App: "Use as Switcher" 
  • Output options: Custom RTMP: “My Channel” 
  • Enter RTMP parameters (FMS URL and Streamkey) for "My Channel" . You may find that information under:  SlideSync / Basics / Encoding Method: "Other Encoder" 
  • Enter further desired settings (resolution, bit rate etc.). Recommendation: 1280x720 Pixel, min. 3000kb/s, 25FPS 
  • Be sure your device is connected to a proper Wi-Fi network. Streaming via LTE is not recommended. 

The Sennheiser XSW-D Lavalier Set serves as a microphone and transmitter-receiver unit in this setup.  
The transmitter of the set is connected to the supplied Lavalier microphone. Once you press the lateral button, the transmitter will get linked to the receiver, which is connected to the smartphone via the Rode i-XLR. 
Attention, the i-XLR has a small volume control. If this is set too high, the sound may be overdriven. 
In order to be able to replace the smartphone's internal microphone, the Rode Rec LE app must also be installed.  
For the tripod we recommend flexible GorillaPods like the Joby GripTight Action Kit with GorillaPod 500 stand, for good usability and handling. 
The XSW-D sets come with only one micro-USB cable, which can be used for charging both the transmitter and the receiver. 
For simple setups like this, we recommend buying another uGreen Micro-USB cable and the Anker 24W 2-Port Charger to charge both devices at the same time. The battery life of the XSW-Ds is approx. four hours in continuous operation. 
This setup revolutionizes the traditional webcast because it is a multifunctional, battery-powered and portable and cost-effective alternative to bigger setups. 
However, streaming via W-Lan always brings potential sources of error, but a smart control of the Internet connection should prevent it. 

3. Switcher App with radio microphones and a mixing console 


The setup described in point 2 (Switcher-App with a radio microphone) can be scaled up by adding a mixer. By doing this you can use up to 4 microphones simultaneously.  

The Kustom PA4EX is a user-friendly mixing console that does not require any specific sound engineering experience. The receivers of the Sennheiser Lavalier set are plugged into the inputs of the mixing console in this setup and can then be levelled using the self-explanatory controls. 

Attention, the setup doesn't recognize itself, if the maximum volume has been adjusted, that means if the individual track controls and the MASTER control, which controls the final volume for the sound output, are set too loud, overdriving can occur. The internal control of the i-XLR must also be observed, as in the previous setup. In the Switcher Studio app at the latest, however, the overdrive should be indicated by a level in the red range. 

The sound can then also be fed into the smartphone with the i-XLR, which, as explained in the previous setup, sends a stream to SlideSync via RTMP. 

Since up to four speakers are possible in this setup, you might want to add a second camera. In this case, the Switcher Studio app can be used to integrate additional smartphones from the same W-Lan network. Simply select "Remote Camera Mode" after starting the app instead of "Use as Switcher".  

The smartphone, which functions as a switcher, should then recognize the remote camera. If not, the rlcc-address can also be entered manually in the Switcher smartphone as an additional source. 

As already mentioned, the XSW-D sets come with only a single micro-USB cable, which can be used for charging both the transmitter and the receiver. Especially for larger setups with up to 8 XSW-D devices it might be difficult to charge all devices at the same time.  
We recommend the Anker Power Port 10 and the purchase of 4 more micro USB cables from uGreen to fully charge all devices in one charge.  

This is a relatively simple setup and the KUSTOM PA4EX is connected to a constant power source. 

4. Switcher App with wireless microphones and Zoom H6 


For example, the mixing console is interchangeable with the Zoom H6 Audio Recorder. This offers several advantages, for example it can record the sound separately on an SD card as an audio recorder. In this case we recommend a SanDisk Extreme 128GB SDXC Memory Card.  

The Zoom H6 is also battery powered, as are the XSW-D microphones, so this setup can be done entirely without a power outlet, whereas mixing consoles such as the KUSTOM PA4EX require a permanent power supply.  

The battery life of the Zoom H6 is up to 20 hours in continuous operation when the batteries are fully charged. At this point we recommend the eneloop USB charger BQ-CC61 including 4 Mignon AA BK-3MCC and AkkuSave, as it occupies one of the free places on the Anker Power Port 10, which is also one of the recommendations for this setup. The last free space can be used for charging the iPhone, for example. 

In order to connect the Zoom H6 Audio Recorder to the smartphone, 2 adapters are required. The Rode SC4 and the Apple audio cable MMX62ZM/A adapter, 3.5mm jack socket / Lightning. 

A standard jack cable is plugged into the Zoom H6. We recommend a short stereo jack, such as the 10cm long Head Sound Cable 3.5mm Stereo Jack. This is connected to the smartphone via the SC4 adapter and the MMX62LM/A cable, as shown in the picture. 

The XSW-D transmitters, unfortunately, are slightly too large for the connections on the Zoom H6, which is why they get connected with the sssnake SK-233-0.3 XLR patch.  

The increased effort due to the cable adaptation and the adjustment possibilities of the Zoom H6 ensures that we only recommend this setup to more experienced people who want a battery-operated system that could theoretically be installed anywhere. 

Large setup

For larger events or environments with challenging sound conditions, we recommend working with specialized audio / video production vendors in your area.

SlideSync with any software encoders that can produce a stream in the widely supported RTMP or RTMPS protocol.
